Full description

Chrysler 70 was a name used by some of the "70" family models started by the Maxwell Motor Company in 1924, one year prior the birth of the Chrysler Corporation. The "70" model family started with the B-70 (also known as Chrysler Six after the six cylinder engine, 1924-1925) and the G-70 (1925-1927). The range evolved with the 1927 launch of the Chrysler "Finer" 70, then with a facelifted version named Chrysler 72 (1928) and continued with the Chrysler 75 (1929). The Chrysler 70 moniker made a return between 1930 and 1932, being sold next to a better equipped version named Chrysler 77.

The 1930 Chrysler 70 was presented in a perfect context: the brand became trusted and respected after two near-production Chrysler 72 cars finished 3rd and 4th the 1928 Le Mans endurance race.

But the main ingredient for Chrysler’s success came with the introduction of the L-head, seven-main-bearing inline-six initially developed for the B-70. These engine, whose output was 68 HP, turned out to be one of the most valued US engines of the era. It had a smaller displacement than the competition, yet could match or surpass their rivals on power output and performance. The engine was particularly efficient, thanks in part to the lightweight aluminium pistons and optional high compression cylinder head. Originally mated to a 3 speed manual gearbox, the engine got an upgraded 4-speed transmission after 1930.

It was available in several two and four seater body styles including a Roadster, Business and Royale Coupe, Convertible Coupe, and Royale Sedan. The most popular 1930 Chrysler 70 body style was the Royale Sedan, with 11,213 examples produced. The 4-door Phaeton with seating for 5 saw just 279 examples sold, the fewest number in the 1930 Chrysler 70 lineup.

The 1930 Chrysler 70 had a standard Delco Remey ignition system, hydraulic brakes on all wheels, mechanical fuel pump and new 'paraflex' springs. In the front was a narrow profile radiator and bowl shaped headlights.

The Phaeton body styles exudes the deco style so prominent at the time. They were popular during the 1920's and early 1930's and featured a cloth top that could disappear and were devoid of windows. The Model 70 Phaeton was a top-line, entry-level Phaeton, giving customers a feeling of opulence, offering a wide array of creature comforts that were found in more expensive vehicles. The Model 70 was less swanky than the Chrysler Model 75 Phaeton, and offered a nice amount of sportiness, elegance, and period-popular styling.

This 1930 Chrysler 70 Phaeton is presentedin very good condition, painted in two-tone tan and brown with an interior finished in black leather and polished aluminum accoutrements.

This car has covered 74,816 miles (approx. 120,400 km).
