Small by Daimler standards, the medium sized Conquest debuted in 1953. The name Century was added in 1954 with the introduction of the 100hp engine and a claimed top speed of 100 mph. The new 2.4L, OHV, 6 cylinder engine of the conquest was coupled to the familiar Daimler preselector gearbox through a fluid flywheel. Gear changing was achieved by first selecting the appropriate ration and then activating it by depressing the left pedal. Body was offered in saloon, roadster and drophead coupe style. Only 234 Conquest Century dropheads were built, out of these only 3 were left hand drive. They had hydraulically operated convertible top and the car could be driven in both “sedanca“ style, with only the front seats exposed, or in full convertible style.
