Full description

Volkswagen Type 2 (known as the Bus, Microbus and many other different names all over the world) was the second Volkswagen mass-production model after the Beetle. Declined in 6 different generations from 1950 until today (from T1 to T6), the Type 2 was one of the Flower Power symbols in the '60 and the '70.

The Volkswagen T1 Samba was the most luxurious version of the first generation of the beloved people carrier. Volkswagen started producing Sambas in 1951. Instead of a sliding door at the side, the Samba had two pivot doors. In addition, the Samba had a fabric sunroof.

Sambas were painted standard in two colors. Usually, the upper part was colored white. The two colored sections were separated by a decorative strip. The van had a more comprehensive dashboard than the normal T1.

In the USA Volkswagen vans were informally classified according to the number of windows they had. This particular car had 21 windows, including eight panoramic windows in the roof.

When Volkswagen started producing the successor of the T1 (the T2) the company also stopped producing the Samba. There are no Sambas in later versions of the Transporter.

The "Splittie" - the informal name of the T1 was born because of the splitted windscreen - left production at the end of the 1967 model year, with over 1.8 million produced. While its successor was equally practical, split-window van owners had fallen in love with its iconic style and it became one of the few vehicles to be collected as soon as it left production. Thanks to those farsighted enthusiasts who did their bit and saved a split, it is now widely appreciated as the charming, useful and completely lovable vehicle it is.

However, their history as utilitarian vehicles and the hard use they underwent have made good restorations particularly challenging. This model is a particularly desirable walk-through center aisle model, and was originally built in this configuration, not as a cargo design. An extensive restoration of a rust-free original Transporter by a marque expert has preserved the body M-code plates, belly pans and floorboards, and it is refinished in the correct Sea Blue over gray. Inside, the complete matching interior is complemented by an original Sapphire Blaupunkt Telefunken radio and clock.

This particular car has 1,603 km on the odometer.
