Full description

The first generation Mustang was an instant success. Though more or less a humble Falcon beneath its sporty skin, Ford's new Mustang still looked like nothing ever seen before when it burst onto the scene in April 1964. Original sale forecast estimated 100,000 units to be sold in the first year, but ended up producing 418,000 cars and reached one million after 18 months, a new Detroit record.

In the confusion caused by the unforeseen demand and by the rush to production, Ford has made some mistakes with the delivery of the new Mustangs. Being unable to supply enough cars to cope with demand, some of the 6-cylinders models came out of the factory with a “Ford Falcon” badged horn button inside the ring emblazed “Ford Mustang”. Other cars left the factory with holes for backup lights, but no lights. Most of these oddities were corrected by the Ford dealers, but sometimes only after being noticed by the clients.

Bucket seats and a floor shifter were standard, and either six-cylinder or 289-cid V-8 power was available under that long hood. Ford's K-code High Performance 289, rated at 271 horsepower, remained the hottest optional engine up through 1966.

Unveiled in 1965, the even sportier 2+2 Fastback pushed the Mustang's body count to three, joining the carryover Coupe and Convertible. Another choice offered in all three shapes, the Mustang GT, debuted in April 1965. The GT version was introduced as the "GT Equipment Package" and included a V8 engine (most often the 225 hp version), grille-mounted fog lamps, rocker panel stripes, and disc brakes.

When Ford wanted to introduce the Mustang in Germany, they discovered that Krupp company had already registered the name for a truck. The German company offered to sell the rights for $10,000. Ford refused and removed Mustang badges from exported units, instead naming the cars as T-5 (a pre-production Mustang project name) for the German market until 1979, when Krupp copyrights expired.

Standard equipment was the Bucket seats, Sport Steering Wheel, Five dial instrument cluster, heater/defroster and the newly introduced seatbelts.

The car is completely restored and it has 12,690 miles (approx. 20,400 km) on board
