Rolls-Royce introduced the Phantom in 1925. It was named the Phantom I only after the introduction of the Phantom II in 1929. One major improvement over the Silver Ghost was the new in-line 6 cylinder OHV engine. It was always described by Rolls Royce as producing “sufficient” power. Also, it is the first Rolls Royce that used an overhead-valve engine.

The new car used the same frame of the old Silver Ghost, with the addition of 4-wheel servo-assisted brakes, licensed from Hispano-Suiza.
Most commonly known as “The Flying Lady”, the Rolls Royce symbol was designed in 1911 by artist Charles Sykes, who used a secretary, Eleanor Thornton, as his model for what originally was “The Spirit Of Speed” and later was officially designated “The Spirit Of Ecstasy”.

This UK example of Phantom I was re-bodied at some point in history by coachbuilder Charlesworth. It has 3,122 miles on board (approx. 5,024 km).
