Istorie

The Continental was introduced in 1939 as a personal vehicle of Edsel Ford, who commissioned a coachbuilt Lincoln-Zephyr convertible as a vacation vehicle to attract potential Lincoln buyers. Styling was conceived by Edsel Ford based on the Lincoln Zephyr and executed by E.T. "Bob" Gregorie. Edsel wanted his one-off convertible to be "european-like and thoroughly continental," including the use of an externally mounted spare tire.

This particular car is one of the only 850 coupes built in 1941.

Full description

The Lincoln Continental is a series of luxury cars produced by Lincoln, a division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Introduced in 1939 as a personal vehicle of Edsel Ford, who commissioned a coachbuilt Lincoln-Zephyr convertible as a vacation vehicle to attract potential Lincoln buyers.

Styling was conceived by Edsel Ford based on the Lincoln Zephyr and executed by E.T. "Bob" Gregorie. Edsel wanted his one-off convertible to be "european-like and thoroughly continental," including the use of an externally mounted spare tire. In the 1950s, when outside spares became popular add-ons for more prosaic makes, they were called "Continental kits," borrowing their name from this Lincoln.

1941 was the last full year of Continental assembly before the WWII, as 1942 production was shortened, following the entry of the United States into the war: the attack on Pearl Harbor led to the suspension of production of automobiles for civilian use. After World War II, the Lincoln division of Ford returned the Continental to production as a 1946 model. Produced for 60 years across nearly eight decades, today we've reached the tenth Lincoln Continental generation.

Only 404 Continentals were built in 1940, but the total rose to 1250 in 1941. Just 400 Cabriolets went on sale that year, priced at $2865. The rest were closed coupes. New pushbutton door releases for 1941 added to the car's distinctive allure.

Continentals held a 292 cubic inches V12 engine, rated at 120 horsepower.

This particular car is one of the only 850 coupes built in 1941. Presented in superb condition, this model’s scarcity in Europe opens the doors to all major concours events.

It has 16,527 miles (aprox. 26,600 km) on board.
