Țiriac Collection gallery reopens to the public in an expanded format and will feature over 150 exceptional vehicles

— Apr 29, 2015

Starting April 30, 2015, the Țiriac Collection — the only personal car collection in Romania open to the public — will once again be accessible to horsepower enthusiasts, this time in an expanded format covering 4,300 square meters, double the original space. The gallery now houses over 150 exceptional models of cars and motorcycles, totaling more than 30,000 horsepower.

At the center of attention this time will be the LaFerrari, the most ambitious project by the Italian manufacturer — their first hybrid model, delivering 963 HP. Produced in a limited run of just 499 units, the model was available exclusively to carefully selected customers. To achieve the performance goals set for LaFerrari, the Italian manufacturer relied on the expertise of its Formula 1 team, especially in the selection of materials, and enlisted the skills of Rory Byrne — the legendary F1 designer responsible for no fewer than 11 world titles won by the Italian team.

The production spectrum of the units featured in the Țiriac Collection ranges from the LaFerrari (2014) to the Hurtu 3 ½ Quadricycle (1899) — the oldest vehicle on display and the oldest known Hurtu still in existence.

Each unit in the Țiriac Collection is unique and represents a milestone in the history of motorized transport. For instance, the Duesenberg Model J (1930) — designed as an American alternative to prestigious European brands like Rolls-Royce, Hispano-Suiza, Isotta-Fraschini, and Mercedes-Benz — made such an impact that it disrupted transactions at the New York Stock Exchange when introduced. The unit displayed in the extended gallery is one of a kind; the only other model was converted into a sedan. The featured car originally belonged to actor Tyrone Power. Duesenberg was also the first car manufacturer to arrange the pedals in the now-standard configuration: clutch, brake, and accelerator.

Another exceptional model housed in the gallery is the Cord 812 Custom Beverly (1937), which comes with an A.C.D. Certified Category 1 Original certificate, attesting to the authenticity of all its components. The Cord 812 is a benchmark in American automotive design.

The Dodge Charger R/T (1968), also on display in the expanded gallery, is widely considered the most attractive muscle car of the 1960s.

Another highlight of the collection is the Stutz Blackhawk (1974), capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. The Blackhawk’s body was hand-built at Carrozzeria Padane in Modena, Italy, and later (from 1972) at Carrozzeria Saturn in Cavallermaggiore, near Turin. The second Stutz prototype built at Padane was the very first Blackhawk ever sold — and not just to anyone, but to Elvis Presley. Stutz cars were famous for their racing success and speed records. Production ended in 1935 after 35,000 units were made.

The Pierce Arrow Model B (1930) is synonymous with luxury and opulence in the automotive world, alongside Cadillac, Packard, and Rolls-Royce. Royal families, heads of state, and many celebrities owned such vehicles — including Emperor Hirohito of Japan, the Shah of Persia, and U.S. Presidents Woodrow Wilson, William Howard Taft, Franklin Roosevelt, and John D. Rockefeller.

A huge Cadillac fan, Elvis Presley would no doubt have been impressed by several exceptional Cadillac models featured in the Țiriac Collection, such as the Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz (1959), Cadillac Torpedo Touring (1912), and Cadillac Sixty Special (1957). The Sixty Special stands out due to its entirely new profile and elegant interior, earning it a place among the most dramatic cars of all time. Its distinctive fender design, stylish chrome finishes, and luxurious detailing confirm its status as a car of exceptional beauty.

Another notable car in the collection is the Chrysler Town and Country (1949) — a true expression of social status in its day. The showcased model is a convertible painted Ocean Blue, with a blue-and-white interior. It features chrome wheels, whitewall tires, dashboard clocks, a built-in radio, and an electrically operated fabric roof. The Town and Country was seen as the perfect summer touring car.

The Țiriac Collection also includes five motorcycles:

  • Indian Scout 741 (1943)
  • MV Agusta 175CST “Disco Volante” (1953)
  • Harley Davidson FLH 80 Electra Glide (1979)
  • Honda GL 1500C Valkyrie (1998)
  • Harley Davidson WL (1941)
As well as the Piaggio Vespa PX200 Mad Rat By Aristide & Honore (1989) scooter.
