Starting from November 29, 2013, the Țiriac Collection gallery opened to the public as the first personal collection in Romania, featuring over 60 impressive vehicle and motorcycle models produced since 1899. Visitors can explore more than 30 renowned automotive and motorcycle brands, including Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls Royce, Cadillac, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maserati, Ford, Chevrolet, Harley Davidson, and Indian Scout. Additionally, the Țiriac Collection provides visitors with valuable information on the history of the displayed brands and models.
"Out of a passion for cars, I have collected vehicles manufactured since 1899. I am now delighted to share this passion with the gallery's visitors. A part of the automotive evolution history is captured within the collection, which I invite you to discover," stated Mr. Ion Țiriac.
Each model showcased in the gallery has a unique story. For example, the Daimler Conquest Century Drophead Coupe was first delivered on May 3, 1956, to the Countess of Nove of Switzerland. The Cadillac Series 62 Convertible (1950) previously belonged to the automotive collection of Karl Blade, the owner of Newell Coach Corp.
The gallery also hosts the world's only private collection featuring all six Rolls Royce Phantom models produced until 1972. Visitors can admire the 1927 Phantom I by Charlesworth, a 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II Sedanca De Ville by Windovers—a generation developed under the supervision of Henry Royce—and a 1937 Phantom III Touring Limousine by Freestone & Webb, purchased by Sir John Leigh in 1939. The Rolls Royce Phantom V (Park Ward) displayed in the Țiriac Collection was acquired by Sir Elton John in May 1990.
The Phantom VI generation in the Țiriac Collection also boasts a distinguished history. A similar model was given to Queen Elizabeth II in 1977 to commemorate 25 years since her ascension to the throne.
Starting in 2014, the collection will be expanded to include Phantom IV, the most exclusive Rolls Royce generation ever built. Currently, the Rolls Royce Phantom IV Coachwork by Hooper, originally owned by Aga Khan III, is on display at the Rolls Royce gallery in Munich. Only 18 units of this model were produced between 1950 and 1956, initially reserved for royal families and heads of state.
Ford enthusiasts will find a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1, purchased by Mr. Ion Țiriac during the Davis Cup finals in Cleveland. The first generation of the Ford Mustang was produced by Ford Motor Company from 1964 to 1973, with 22,000 orders placed on the first day of its release in 1964. Among other rare models in the collection is the Ford RS 200, one of approximately 200 units produced worldwide. The most powerful version of the Ford RS was estimated at 815 HP, reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2 seconds, making it the fastest production car of its time.
Another record-breaking model is the Jaguar XJ220 (540 HP, 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds), which held the title of the fastest production car from 1992 to 1993 and retained the production car lap record at the famed Nürburgring until 2000.
James Bond fans can admire the Aston Martin V8 Vantage (1981) with 380 HP, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. A similar model was driven by Agent 007, portrayed by Timothy Dalton, in the film "The Living Daylights" (1987).
The collection also includes a 1968 Maserati Ghibli Berlinetta, which originally belonged to entertainer Sammy Davis Jr., a member of Frank Sinatra's "The Rat Pack."
One of the gallery's highlights is the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss, designed by Korean designer Yoon Il-Hun. This exclusive model is part of a limited edition of only 75 vehicles worldwide, boasting 640 HP and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph), with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds.
The Țiriac Collection is further enriched by the Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG (2006), admired by racing legends such as Juan Pablo Montoya, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, and Jenson Button. This model is also highly exclusive, with only 100 couples and 80 convertibles produced globally.
The Țiriac Collection also showcases four iconic motorcycles: the Indian Scout 741 (1943), MV Agusta 175CST "Disco Volante" (1953), Harley Davidson FLH 80 Electra Glide (1979), and Honda GL 1500C Valkyrie (1998), which are sure to captivate adrenaline enthusiasts.
Spanning an area of 2,200 square meters, the collection is maintained under controlled temperature and humidity conditions to ensure the preservation of the exhibits.
