The Rolls-Royce Phantom II was the last Rolls-Royce developed by Henry Royce himself before his death. At the introduction the car was outstanding in design and manufacturing excellence. It used an improved version of the Phantom I engine and an all-new chassis.
The engine used by the second generation Phantom was a refined version of the 7.7L, in-line 6-cylinder, also found on its predecesor. Its balance and silence is second to none, even by today’s standards. Power output was never quoted by the factory, Rolls-Royce merely stating engine power as „sufficient”. Still, it was later estimated to be around 118 hp. The car has a a 4-speed manual gearbox, with synchromesh on 3rd and 4th gears. Later, from 1935, also on 2nd gear.
This particular Rolls-Royce was bodied by Coachbuilder Van Rijswijk of Holland, in a landaulet body style. Landaulet is similar to a limousine but with the passenger section covered in a convertible top. The luxurious interior includes features like courtesy lights, a drinks cabinet, a clock and a window to separate the driver compartment. There is room for three passengers on the sofa like back seat and an extra two on the folding seats if necessary. When not in use, these seats fold into the separation wall, giving generous leg room to the occupants. As all Rolls-Royce cars of the period, this car is unique, built by hand to the specifications of its owner.
