Full description

El Dorado is the mythical City of Gold that enticed thousands of European sailors and explorers to cross the Atlantic in search of treasures in South America. It’s also the Cadillac model that, more than any other, represents the hopes and aspirations of the late 1950s. The very first Cadillac Eldorado was a concept car shown at GM’s Motorama Show (U.S.A.’s first major motor show, first staged in 1949) in the ballroom of a swanky New York hotel, an annual event at which all GM’s brand put their latest models and their ideas for the future on display.

The Eldorado is a personal luxury car produced by Cadillac Division of General Motors. The production of Eldorado started in 1953 and continued until 2002, for ten generations. The main competition of this model were Lincoln Mark series, Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado. The Eldorado was at the top of Cadillac line during early years. The original 1953 Eldorado convertible and the Eldorado Brougham models of 1957-1960 were the most expensive models that Cadillac offered those years.

Eldorado standard equipment for 1959 included every conceivable power-assist and luxury feature available at the time. These included a power six-way front seat, left-hand remote outside mirror, a radio, and power steering, brakes and windows. Air conditioning, E-Z Eye tinted glass and an automatic headlamp dimmer were among the few extra-cost options.

Elvis Presley was a big Cadillac enthusiast. It was estimated that he owned more than 200 cars, a lot of them being Cadillacs, but there is no proof that he owned the big-finned 1959 Cadillac. This is probably because in 1959 he was stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany. In August 2001, actor Nicolas Cage bought a 1959 Cadillac at an auction as a gift for Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis' daughter.

Cadillac produced 1,320 examples of the Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. This example has been given a professional restoration and is powered by a 6391 cc, overhead valve V8 engine mated to a 3-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. It has upgraded disc brakes with hydraulic drums in the back. It has an original Persian Sand exterior and interior, and a correct Maroon convertible top.

This car has covered 99,796 miles (approx. 160.600 km).
