Built on the S2 Bentley chassis, the Continental Drophead Coupe was exclusively coach built car, combining the ride comfort and silence of the S2 with a convertible top.
Production of the V8-engined 'S2' Continental started from the autumn of 1959, by specialized coachbuilding firms of H. J. Mulliner, Park Ward, James Young and Hooper (with a solitary example). The elegant “Continental” form of the S2 was considered the highest specification of the chassis, at the top of the model range. Although quite similar to the standard S2, the Continentals featured upgraded brakes different rear axle settings in order to handle the more demanding requirements for high speed cruising on the European continent, with its more modern motorways. Continentals were consistently faster, quieter and more comfortable than standard production cars and, in today’s market, considerably more desirable.

This Continental was delivered new to Rolls-Royce Inc in New York, USA where it was sold via J S Inskip to its first owner: Howard Lauhoff of North Danville, Illinois.
Copy chassis cards on file record that the car was originally finished in black with off-white interior and equipped with electric windows and aerial, power operated convertible hood and Sundym glass. Apparently, the Lauhoffs kept the Bentley until the late 1980s. In September, 1990 the car was imported into Germany where it was restored.
The car has travelled 92,314 Miles (approx. 148,514 km).
