Production of Series 3 cars lasted from 1973 through October 1978 but was halted for all of 1975. 967 units were produced in this time.
The car produces 310 hp and can reach 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
The Aston Martin V8 is an automobile which was manufactured by Aston Martin in the United Kingdom from 1969 to 1989. As with all traditional Aston Martins, it was entirely handbuilt – with each car requiring 1,200 man-hours to finish.
Aston Martin customers had long awaited a car with eight cylinders, so the company set out to develop a larger model. However, the engine was not yet ready, and in 1967, Aston Martin launched the DBS powered by the six-cylinder inline Vantage engine, derived from the DB6. Two years later, Tadek Marek’s V8 was completed, and the company introduced the DBS V8. With the discontinuation of the six-cylinder Vantage in 1973, the DBS V8 - now facelifted and simply renamed the Aston Martin V8 — became the company’s flagship model for nearly two decades, until it was succeeded by the Virage in 1989.
The car returned to Weber carburetors with Series 3 in 1973, seemingly to comply with California’s stricter emissions standards, but most likely because Aston Martin was unable to get the Bosch fuel injection system to work reliably. These models are distinguished by a taller hood scoop, designed to accommodate four twin-choke Weber carburetors. The engine produced 310 hp, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds with an automatic transmission, or 5.7 seconds with a manual. Performance was affected by emissions regulations, dropping to 288 hp in 1976. The following year, a more powerful “Stage 1” engine, featuring new camshafts and an updated exhaust system, restored output to 305 hp.
Production of Series 3 cars took place between 1973 and October 1978, although manufacturing was halted for the entire year of 1975. During this period, 967 units were built. Unlike earlier V8 models, which had slats cut into the small panel mounted beneath the rear windshield, the Series 3 cars and subsequent models featured a subtle trim at the lower part of this panel, located just ahead of the front edge of the trunk lid.
This car has coverd 77,351 km.
