Introduced in 1959 the Daimler Majestic Major was like a wolf in sheep’s clothing! It is faster than a Mark X Jaguar, up to 130 km/h despite its 1880 kg bulk and it has been said that Jaguar tried a Daimler 4.5 motor in a Mark X and it did 217 km/h.
Introduced in 1959, the Daimler Majestic Major was something of a wolf in sheep's clothing. An upright and imperious four-door saloon that was almost visually indistinguishable from its Majestic sibling, the Major was powered by a 4561cc OHV V8 engine that developed a quoted 220hp.
A substantially lengthened limousine version of the same chassis and body shell, the Daimler DR450, was available from 1961 until the V8 engine ended production.
The engine transformed the staid Majestic into a high performance car capable of 120 mph (190 km/h). Motor Sport magazine described the Major as having "sports car performance", while The Autocar stated that it appeared "almost as a sports saloon".
It is faster than a Mark X Jaguar up to 80 mph (130 km/h) despite its 1880 kg bulk and it has been said that Jaguar tried a Daimler 4.5 motor in a Mark X and it did 135 mph (217 km/h).
The British The Motor magazine tested a Majestic Major with power steering in 1961 and recorded a top speed of 122.3 mph (196.8 km/h) and acceleration from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 9.7 seconds.
This car has covered 37,620 miles.
