The T-Type range was launched in 1936 to replace the P-Type range.
Some T-Type MGs were used as Police cars and this particular unit was used by the Lancashire Police.

At a time when the name MG was synonymous with the term sports car, Baron William Richard Morris sold his MG Car Company Ltd. to Leonard Lord, Director of Morris Motors Ltd. This happened in 1935.
The first model developed under the new organisation was the T-Type, launched in 1936. When first introduced, the model was known simply as the T Type, only after the advent of the MG TB (1939) did the TA designation come into use.
The new T Type was powered by an engine from Wolseley, with a modified camshaft, manifold and twin SU carburetors, it was good for 50 HP. This gave the TA a top speed of around 130 km/h.
The 4-speed manual gearbox had synchromesh on the top two ratios and was connected to the engine by a cork-faced wet clutch. The drum brakes were hydraulically operated.
From 1938, a Tickford drophead coupé bodied by Slamson was added to the lineup. The soft top could be used in three positions: fully open, closed or open just over the seats. Wind-up windows were fitted to the higher topped doors making the car more weathertight and individual bucket seats used in the fully carpeted interior. Complete chassis were fitted with a very basic body at the Abingdon factory and driven to Newport Pagnell to have their coachwork fitted.
A closed Airline coupé made by Carbodies, as fitted to the P type (1934-1936), was also offered, but only one or two is thought to have been made.
The Lancashire Police used this particular car.
