Full description

The Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph was produced from 1998 to 2002 and was the final 4-door Rolls-Royce model to be hand built at the Crewe, England factory. It served as a replacement for the Silver Spur which had been in production for nearly two decades. The Silver Seraph was the first Rolls-Royce to have a 12-cylinder engine since the 1939 Phantom III. It was a thoroughly modern vehicle outfitted with the latest digital engine management, all-new electronics, cruise control, and anti-lock brakes as standard. The interior was trimmed in Connolly leather and glossy wood veneer passenger rear tray-tables. Traditionally, it was extremely quiet and extremely refined.

Developed with help from the BMW Group and powered by a 5.4-liter BMW V12 engine, the Seraph was a far more modern car with up-to-the minute electronics controlling the adaptive ride control, five-speed automatic transmission and a plethora of safety equipment. Body stiffness was said to have improved by 65% producing a better ride, handling, and increased drivability. The long wheelbase version was named the Park Ward.

Its design was signed by Roller, as were its sumptuous interior appointments. But the Silver Seraph was a thoroughly modern car, with the state-of-the-art equipment and updated mechanicals that had been lacking in Rolls-Royce products for many years. The ancient 6,75 liter V8 had been replaced by a 5.4 liter BMW V12. The overhead cam, all-alloy engine was far more advanced than the old V8, and was more in line with modern, high-end luxury offerings from prestigious brands.

The mating of a 5-speed ZF automatic transmission to the BMW V12 created a surprisingly Germanic drivetrain, but the rest of the car was overflowing with British luxury. From the outside, the Silver Seraph had the unmistakable look of a Rolls-Royce. The proud, upright radiator grille, graced by the famous Spirit of Ecstasy, looked natural on the car's softened nose.

Sold from 1998 until 2002, the Silver Seraph was received well by Rolls-Royce buyers and admirers. Its illustrious presence left no doubt as to what it was, and the fusion of modern mechanicals with timeless British luxury created a car worth the place in the Rolls Royce history. A total of 1,570 Silver Seraphs were built before BMW became confident enough to introduce the Phantom 7 model.
