Full description

The MG Car Company was founded in 1920 by Cecil Kimber,. MG stands for Morris Garages, specialized in building sports cars based on Morris products.

The MG SA or MG 2-litre was a sporting saloon produced by the MG Car Company from 1936 to 1939. Launched as the 2 litre, it only later became known as the SA, the car had been originally planned as an advanced performance saloon with all independent suspension to rival the likes of SS Cars (later to be known as Jaguar) and even Bentley. The saloon body, the only option available at the time of the car's launch, was made in-house by Morris and was a spacious four door with traditional MG grille flanked by two large chrome plated headlights.

The SA was available first with a 2.0L engine and later with a 2,288cc or 2,322cc, 6 cylinder engine. From April 1936, a 4 seat, drophead coupe was offered by Slamson and in July the 4 door, tourer appeared from Coachbuilder Charlesworth. This particular car is one of the only five known survivers of the 17 tourers built by Charlesworth.

Production ended with the outbreak of war in 1939 and was not resumed after.

The car with the chassis no. 1771 was delivered new, in cream white color, to its first owner, Mr. Alfred Nencini, on 19 May 1937. In November 1939, the car has been involved in an accident, after which it has been repaired and repainted black.

It wasn’t until 2002, with the complete restoration, that the car was returned to its original factory color.

The car has 88,470 miles (approx. 142,379 km) on board.
