Three basic models were available throughout the Carrera years – coupe, targa and cabriolet. Porsche offered a Speedster version produced in limited numbers (2104) between January 1989 and July 1989. One of these cars can be admired in the Tiriac Collection. It was a low-roof version of the Cabriolet which was evocative of the Porsche 356 Speedster of the 1950s.
The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was launched in 1984. It was the last special 911 variant presented by Porsche before the retirement of the first generation, built between 1963 and 1989. The Carrera name was used before on a previous 911 version: the Carrera 3.0, built between 1967 and 1977.
As indicated by its name, the new Carrera offered a 3.2 litre flat-six cylinder engine, the highest displacement available on an naturally aspirated first-gen 911 engine. It was sold in different output variants throughout the world: 210 PS (later 220 PS) at 5,900 rpm for North American-delivered cars and 234 PS at 5,900 rpm for most other markets. This version of the 911 accelerated from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and had a top speed of 150 mph (240 km/h).
