Superior comfort, lightweight design and a host of high-end technologies define the fourth-generation A8, flagship of the Audi car model range. For 2021, the short-wheelbase A8 was dropped, leaving the long-wheelbase “L” — some 130 millimetres longer than the regular model — as the standard bearer. The 2022 A8 saw a minor exterior refresh that included a revised front grille, front and rear bumpers and new lighting. For 2023 the full-size sedan is sold only as the A8 L 55 TFSI quattro.
The “55” is powered by a turbocharged, 335-hp, 369Nm, 3.000L V6, mated with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission. The powertrain also uses a combination alternator and starter that is capable of recuperating up to 12 kilowatts of power through regenerative braking, which is then sent to the car’s 48-volt lithium-ion battery. The 4.0L V8 has been dropped.
The conservatively styled A8 L comes loaded with a long list of performance, comfort, infotainment and driver assistance features. Adaptive air suspension, panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, power-close doors, Bang & Olufsen premium sound system and, new for 2023, remote park assist, are just a few of the many standard features.
