Chevrolet Corvette 35th Anniversary Edition 1988

Istorie

This model was delivered new from the factory to the famed Bob McDorman Chevrolet in Canal Winchester, Ohio. McDorman was a diehard Corvette enthusiast, having seen his first Corvette in 1953. It was love at first sight, and from that moment until his passing in May 2015 it was a lifelong affair. At its peak, the McDorman Corvette Collection numbered well over 100 cars, many of them with either low serial numbers, celebrity ownership history, racing history or some other special defining characteristic. In this case, it’s the fact that it is one of a special offering of 2,050 35th Anniversary Special Edition Corvettes.

Full description

America’s greatest sports car – and for many years its only sports car – is the Chevrolet Corvette. The name was born as long as 1953 when Detroit launched its plastic bodied answer to the flood of European imports. A whole dynasty of ‘Vettes followed on, up to the Stingray of the 1970’s, which was as American as they come.

Corvette’s history overflows with significant milestones and accomplishments, not the least of which was reaching its 35th year as America’s Sports Car, four years into the development of the fourth generation that would mature over 16 years and lead to a new era of Corvette supremacy.

There was one problem with Corvette’s 30th anniversary in 1983, there was no Corvette with which to celebrate. Late development delays on the incoming C4 replacement meant skipping from the 1982 model all the way into 1984, but the new model was well worth the wait, and in 1988 America’s Sports Car celebrated 35th year serving the faithful. The 35th Anniversary Corvette showcased the tremendous technological advances made by the fourth generation. Power was bumped to 245hp in the coupe, and significant revisions to the suspension and brakes took full advantage of the new tyres. Chevrolet celebrated Corvette’s 35th anniversary in high style with a nod to the Waldorf-Astoria debut of the original Motorama car, raising the curtain on it at the New York Auto Show on April 1st, 1988. The coupe-only 35th Anniversary Edition was finished in White with matching door handles, mirror, body-side mouldings and aluminium wheels, with a contrasting Black roll hoop and a dark tinted acrylic roof panel.

This model was delivered new from the factory to the famed Bob McDorman Chevrolet in Canal Winchester, Ohio. McDorman first placed his name on a Chevrolet dealership in Columbus, Ohio, in 1965, right in the middle of the revered “midyear” Corvette era. By then McDorman was already a diehard Corvette enthusiast, having seen his first Corvette in 1953 while mowing his parents’ lawn.

Unrestored with 163 original miles, this is another time capsule worthy of the Bloomington Golf Benchmark, Survivor and Gold Certification it earned in 2008.
