Chevrolet Corvette Collector Edition 1982

Istorie

America’s greatest sports car – and for many years its only sports car – is the Chevrolet Corvette. The name was born as long as 1953 when Detroit launched its plastic bodied answer to the flood of European imports. A whole dynasty of ‘Vettes followed on. The legend continues today.

Full description

The year 1982 was a landmark for Corvette, one that comes alive again in the form of this very special Collector Edition coupe loaded with unique features

The third generation Corvette finally bowed in 1982 after a 15 year run with the same basic body and chassis that dated back to 1963. To commemorate this milestone, Chevrolet offered a special Collector Edition that was the first Corvette with a base price over $20,000 ($22,537.59 to be exact).

Chevrolet took special steps to prevent counterfeiting of Collector Edition Corvettes, building only pre-ordered cars that were fitted with special vehicle identification number plates. In addition to special two-tone Silver-Beige paint with contrasting pin striping, special cloisonne emblems, a Silver-Beige leather interior, mid-year-look finned aluminium wheels, Bronze-tinted glass roof panels and a wealth of options as standard equipment, the Collector Edition featured a lift-up frameless glass hatchback, a feature many Corvette fans thought should have been incorporated when the fastback was introduced in 1978.

All 1982 models were treated to a new engine that was originally slated to debut in the delayed new 1983 model. Still displacing 350 CI, the new power plant boasted a freshly developed fuel-injection system.

Then General Motors upped the stakes with a totally new generation Corvette launched in early 1983 as a 1984 model. Here was a thoroughly modern-looking sports car that was still a recognizably a ‘Vette. The coupe shape was cleaner both aesthetically and aerodynamically.

This car has been part of the prestigious Ed Foss Collection since 2004, when it was purchased from its original owner, today it presents in unrestored condition with an astounding odometer reading of 8 miles at the moment of purchase.
