Lamborghini Jalpa P350 1987

Istorie

In 1981, Lamborghini introduced the Jalpa P350. The Jalpa was a development of the earlier Silouette, but was rather more successful; a total of 419 examples were sold. The name Jalpa came from a famous breed of fighting bulls, a tradition later followed with the Gallardo. Compared to the Countach, the Jalpa was much easier to drive, having better visibility and being more tractable in heavy traffic and at slow speeds.

Full description

The Lamborghini Jalpa is a sport car produced by the Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini from 1981 to 1988.

At the Geneva Auto Show of 1976, Lamborghini introduced the Silhouette P300 as a sort of styling exercise by Bertone. Based heavily on the earlier Lamborghini Uracco, the Silhouette featured more modern, angular styling, a mid/transversely mounted, 3.0L V8 engine linked to a 5 speed manual transmission, and a Targa top. Only 54 cars were produced, 12 of which were right hand drive, and it’s been said that only 31 Silhouette survive.

In 1981, Lamborghini introduced the Jalpa P350. The Jalpa was a development of the earlier Silouette, but was rather more successful; a total of 419 examples were sold. Very similar to the Silhouette, the Jalpa featured a more powerful 255hp, 3,5 L V8 engine, more aggressive styling and the Targa top.

The name Jalpa came from a famous breed of fighting bulls, a tradition later followed with the Gallardo. Compared to the Countach, the Jalpa was much easier to drive, having better visibility and being more tractable in heavy traffic and at slow speeds.

Originally the plastic components (bumpers, air intakes and engine cover) were black, and the car carried over the rectangular taillights of the Silhouette. In 1984, however, the plastic became body-colored, and round taillights were fitted.

In 1988, after falling sales, the new owners, Chrysler, decided to end Jalpa production.

In the 1985 movie Rocky IV, Rocky drives a black Lamborghini Jalpa. On the TV show Miami Vice Phil Collins drove a White Lamborghini Jalpa in the season 2 episode "Phil the Shill".
