The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has claimed the Nurburgring production car lap record. Affalterbach’s most extreme coupe recently set a time of 6:43.616 minutes, beating the previous record holder – the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ – by more than a second.
Mercedes says the record-setting AMG GT Black Series was only fitted with factory stock components.
Based closely on the racing program’s GT3, the GT Black Series is as close as you can get to the real thrill of the race. Not only is it the most powerful AMG ever, it’s also the most aerodynamic, contains the most intelligent mix of materials and boasts the most impressive driving dynamics. Carbon-fibre is used extensively for most of the body, including the hood, roof, hatch and underbody. The exterior gains an enlarged grille, based on the Mercedes-AMG GT3, large air outlets on the hood, manually adjustable front splitter, and upgraded rear wing as part of a major aerodynamic kit.
The model is equipped with adaptive dampers as standard similar to that of the AMG GT R Pro that allow the selection of Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus settings. Sport Plus is designed to be used on racetracks, but has a smart feature that can measure the smoothness of the track surface and tweak its settings to maximize grip. Forged alloy wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that have specifically designed for this car are fitted as well.
Under the hood is the most powerful AMG V8 engine, methodically configured by Affalterbach’s engineers to deliver performances that takes the breath away: 730 hp and 800 Nm maximum torque. The car reaches 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds and the pedal accelerates to a maximum speed of 325 km / h.
The model is equipped with the Edition Package, which includes: body styling in "Paint Concept STAR", AMG Indoor car cover and wheels with turquoise finishes.
The interior design emphasizes the favored position of the AMG GT Black series: the exclusively nappa leather is combined with black DYNAMIC sports microfiber with contrasting turquoise seams. The finishes are made of matte black carbon fiber and the inner night package adds other highlights. The newly designed instrument panel and lightweight panels are equipped with loop pull handles instead of conventional handles, and the AMG carbon fiber backrests seats combine light weight with optimal side support.
The new AMG GT Black Series pushes this tradition to an unprecedented level of power and performance. And while the vehicle is indeed road-ready, the only place to truly test its capabilities is on a closed track.
