Shelby Series 1 is the only car ever designed and engineered by Carroll Shelby from a clean sheet of paper. Carroll Shelby is an American automotive designer, racing driver, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his involvement with the AC Cobra and Mustang for Ford, but also for his victory in 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans race with Aston Martin DBR1/300.
Testing and certification required for Shelby Series 1 incurred significant costs, so Shelby was forced to abandon the initial plan to build a limited run of 249 units of Series 1 and release them all at once. However, all the units were constructed as 1999 model.
Shelby was notorious for having very exacting standards for anything his name was attached to, so it was natural that the only project he would take from blank page to finished project would have plenty to live up to. Even if enthusiasm from buyers waned as the project dragged on, they were not disappointed when they finally received the cars. There is no question that Shelby Series 1 is an instant collectible car that continue to garner attention today.
This Shelby Series 1 is equipped with a V8 naturally aspirated engine which delivers 320 HP. Performance is in the supercar category with a 0-60 miles time at 3.2 seconds. In 2007, this car has won the Gold Class award at Shelby Mid-America Meeting from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This car has covered 3,812 miles (approx. 6,134 km).
