Mercedes-Benz 600 "The white swans" 1966

Istorie

The exhibit exposed and the model Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman from 1969, also known as "the white swans", were purchased together after persistent negotiations with the descendants of Neuhaus. The owner was allowed only to buy the pair on the condition that, even if they were resold, they would always stay together, just like a pair of swans that live in monogamy for life.

Full description

The 600 has a stunning design, powered by a 247 horsepower, 6.3-liter, fuel-injected, SOHC. The styling was a collaboration between Bruno Sacco and Paul Bracq, and the design has certainly stood the test of time. Despite its size, the 600 was a very capable road car, able to cruise at over 160 Km/h with a top speed of 207 Km/h and the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/ h in just 10 seconds.

The 600 was offered from 1963-1981 in two wheelbase lengths reaching a total of 2677 pieces. The “short” wheelbase sedan is 320 cm long, and the most popular with 2,190 sold. The gigantic Pullman had a 3899 cm wheelbase and was favored by royalty, movie stars, and heads of state around the world.

Mercedes-Benz built 428 Pullman limousines including four- and six-door versions, and 59 rare Landaulets that featured a folding rear roof. Manual labor predominated extremely much in the production process, 50 working days were required for the sedan model and 54 days for the Pullman.

Virtually every conceivable power option graced the Mercedes-Benz 600. Most famously, the car’s self-leveling air suspension was powered by a 2,200-psi hydraulic pump, which also operated the power disc brakes, opened the doors, and powered the seats, trunk, windows and sunroof. The 600 series has virtually no electronics other than a rudimentary computer used for automatic temperature regulation by the air conditioner.

Famous owners of the 600 included Udo Jürgens, Herbert von Karajan, Aristoteles Onassis, Jack Nicholson, Rowan Atkinson, Elvis Presley, Jeremy Clarkson, Nicolae Ceaușescu and others.

This car has covered 100.449 km.
