Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman "The white swans" 1969

Istorie

The exhibit exposed and the model Mercedes-Benz 600 from 1966, also known as "the white swans", were purchased together after persistent negotiations with the descendants of Neuhaus. The owner was allowed only to buy the pair on the condition that, even if they were resold, they would always stay together, just like a pair of swans that live in monogamy for life.

Full description

The 600 Pullman has a stunning design and is powered by a 6.3-liter SOHC fuel-injected engine that produces 247 horsepower.

The giant Pullman model has a wheelbase of 3,900 mm and is preferred by relevant personalities from the world royalty scene, movie stars and heads of state around the world.

Mercedes-Benz built 428 Pullman limousines, including four- and six-door versions, and 59 very rare landaulet models, which had a folding roof at the rear. Manual labor predominated extremely much in the production process, 50 working days were required for the sedan model and 54 days for the Pullman. Virtually every conceivable power option graced the Mercedes-Benz 600. Most famously, the car’s self-leveling air suspension was powered by a 2,200-psi hydraulic pump, which also operated the power disc brakes, opened the doors, and powered the seats, trunk, windows and sunroof.

The example integrated in the Țiriac Collection gallery is white, with a white leather interior, 6.24 meters long and combines the best automotive engineering solutions, combined with the most modern technical solutions of the time. The central doors are exemplary: on this model, they have no external handles and can only be opened from the inside - at first glance, the car looks like a slightly longer four-door model.

The V8 engine effortlessly transfers its power to the rear wheels even at low revs - the maximum torque of 500 Nm  is already reached at 2800 rpm. Thanks to the precise steering, the double-link front axle, the single-joint swing rear axle and, in particular, the sensitive air suspension, the colossus can be driven into corners with impeccable precision. The sporting conditions of handling, acceleration and agility are almost equal to those of contemporary sports cars. There are virtually no electronics in the 600, other than a rudimentary computer to automatically adjust the standard air conditioning to the desired temperature.

To appreciate the achievements of the engineers, we must take into account the fact that during the development period of the 600, between 1955 and 1963, there were no computers at all at hand.

Daimler-Benz AG has proven that the three-pointed star brand builds the best cars in the world and is a technology pioneer.

This car has covered 95.223 km.
