The 2011 Harley-Davidson Softail Fat Boy FLSTF is one of the quintessential cruiser motorcycles. The legendary Harley-Davidson Fat Boy motorcycle defined the ‘fat custom’ category and imitators everywhere tried to copy its magic. This original continues to turn heads wherever it rolls, with fat tires, fat bars, a fat fender and a big, powerful, black powder-coated, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B engine.
The Fat Boy model is the very definition of a heavyweight motorcycle, delivering a bold styling statement and a wide, comfortable riding stance. Now, for 2011, this boulevard icon offers a larger readout on the odometer with more information, such as gear and RPM data, plus the new Security Package option with an Anti-lock Braking System and Smart Security System. All this technology works seamlessly into the exquisite styling in a way that only Harley-Davidson can deliver.
Based on the Softail, the Fat Boy - or FLSTF, to give it its proper name - oozes menace. From the big, faired mudguards to its saddle-style seat and that polished V-twin engine that dominates the landscape, the big fella is all about muscle. In its earliest guise, the Fat boy used Harley’s 1340cc Evo engine, which has evolved with incremental capacity increases and minor detail changes. But one thing hasn’t changed: should an anti-hero ever need to ride off an overpass for the cameras, they’d still probably choose a Fat Boy.
A similar model can be seen in Terminator as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s motorcycle. It is one of the cinema’s great moments and it is part of the reason the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy is a cult bike.
